Soccer player seeking paternity test before paying child support

Mario Balotelli, a well-known English soccer player, has faced demands for future child support from ex-girlfriend Raffaella Fico, a prominent Italian showgirl. Emphasizing that if the child she is now carrying is, indeed, his biological child, Balotelli says he does not intend to shirk his responsibility.

As a result, he has demanded that a paternity test be conducted to conclusively determine the facts. Men in New Orleans, as well as elsewhere, may find themselves in similar circumstances. An ex-girlfriend may state that she is pregnant with a man's child, but there may be room for doubt as to whether or not it is true. In these situations, a man or a mother may request a DNA test.

In this case, the ex-girlfriend recently informed the soccer player that she is four months pregnant, insisting that the child is his. A DNA paternity test can determine whether this is the case. The soccer player stated that, while he would prefer not to publicly discuss his private life, his relationship with Fico ended at the beginning of April. He also questioned why she did not inform him of the pregnancy until she was in her fourth month.

He stated that he would live up to his parental obligations if it is proven that he is the father. Further, he expressed annoyance at Fico's attempt to capitalize on their former relationship by granting interviews and selling pictures to the media.

It seems clear that he is taking the right approach in demanding a paternity test before a father/child relationship develops. Few men would want to take responsibility for a child that they have no biological relationship with, simply for the failure to seek a simple paternity test. Dealing with the issue sooner rather than later can avoid uncertainty and unnecessary complications.
